History

The majority of previous Dolphination works have been cartoon stories. Early ones had imaginary characters, albeit with a heavy influence from various ZX Spectrum computer games and other sources. This very early work resulted in a feature in the Daily Times newspaper in 1986, and a meeting with their resident cartoonist. Sample works of the time are:-

KNIGHTS OF THE POLYGON TABLE (cartoon story, 1985)
MAGGOT MARATHON (cartoon story, 1985)
MAGGOT MARATHON 2 (cartoon story, 1985)
MAGGOT MARATHON (ZX Spectrum animation, 1985)
JETMAN (cartoon story, 1986)
DAY OF KNIGHTS (cartoon story, 1986)

Things stepped up a bit with cartoons featuring real people, and humour was greatly emphasised. More work was computer based, and between 1986 and 1989 over 30 games and other programs were created on the ZX Spectrum. More variety came in the form of a Grange Hill audio spoof. Examples from this period are:-

2E IN SPACE (cartoon story, 1986)
ARDEN HILL (audio play, 1988)
THE GUIDE HANDBOOK (cartoon strip, 1989)
SUICIDE (ZX Spectrum game, 1989)
SPACE ZOMBIES (cartoon story, 1989)

By 1989 the effort that went into presentation increased as did the attention to detail. These new works were very popular and even resulted in sales of monochrome photocopies. The main works were:-

SOMETHING IN THE SWIMMING POOL! (cartoon story, 1990)
ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST (cartoon story, 1990)
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF ANDREW JONES (cartoon story, 1991)
THE HOUSE IN STARBOLD CRESCENT (cartoon story, 1991)
REVENGE OF THE GUIDE HANDBOOK (cartoon strip, 1991)
GREGORY GOES TO THE LASERZONE (cartoon story, 1992)
DANGER IN THE WOODS (cartoon story, 1992)
WHO IS MATHEW JOINER (cartoon story, 1993)

In 1993, audio mixing was completed on two spoof music videos for Stuart Busby and Neal Harris. These were:-

CAN YOU FORGIVE HER? (video, 1993)
IT'S A SIN (video, 1993)

This work led to first thoughts about making a full length movie, based on a blockbuster film about dinosaurs that happened to be out that Summer. This film was:-

DORRIDGE PARK (movie, 1993)

In 1995 an extensive written work was produced, based on an underground chat system hidden in a Tesco warehouse. This was:-

THE VOICE BOX (written work, 1995)

The same year, work started on an ambitious film version of a previous cartoon story. This film was:-

WHO IS MATHEW JOINER (movie, 1996)

There was pressure in 1997 to make a sequel to Dorridge Park. The final film was finished in 1998 and was:-

A LOST CAUSE - DORRIDGE PARK 2 (movie, 1998)

In 1999, work started on a film involving a group of 1970s heroes trying to foil an attack on Solihull by Vikings. This film was eventually re-written as a spoof of a famous film containing minis, and released as:-

THE SOLIHULL JOB (movie, 1999)

In 2000, a return was made to cartoon stories. The brief was to draw the pictures for a story about a bear who starts his own business, as a promotional tool for a website. The Girl Guides also made a return, while Tony Fryer received a special 10th Anniversary drawing, remixed and coloured by Matt Golsby.

THE GUIDE HANDBOOK 2000 (cartoon strip, 2000)
TOTAL RESTYLE - 'THEY STOLE HIS HAIR - NOW HE WANTS IT BACK!' (10th anniversary poster, 2000)
THE ADVENTURES OF BENJY BEAR (cartoon story, 2000)

By this time a mass of out-takes had been collected from the first four films. These were collected together and special links filmed for a video entitled:-

GREATEST OUT TAKES EVER 2000 (video, 2001)

In 2001, Dolphination was launched on the web. The most prominent addition was a fun tribute to cult television programmes in the form of:-

LEGO SCI-FI (MODEL CONSTRUCTION, 2001/2)

In 2006 work continued on Impact Day - a blockbusting movie featuring a no-star cast! Also there was a return to Lego Sci-fi.
